Creating Dynamic Realism with Pastels, with Alec Hall

Please be sure to purchase the required materials for your class prior to the first day of class. All materials are available at our local art supply store, The Starving Artist, located at 814 Kanuga Road, Hendersonville, NC 28793. If you have any questions about the materials for your class, please contact us. 

MATERIAL LIST

A small set of hard pastels (Nupastels) and a set of medium-soft pastels (Rembrandt, Mungyo, or Girault) and/or an assortment of soft pastels (Great American, Sennelier, Terry Ludwig)

Pastel surfaces: (choose 1; Size: 9” x 12” or larger)
 - Sanded papers: UART, Art Spectrum, Pastel Premier, La Carte
 - Panel: Pastelbord

Apron or smock (old shirt)
Old hand towel or soft rag
Masonite board or drawing board
Large bulldog clips (2-4)
Styrofoam peanuts
Bright bristle brush (approx. ½ inch wide)
Kneaded eraser
Soft charcoal or gray or light blue pastel pencil
Reference Photo (preferably 8” x 10”)

Optional: we will discuss more in first class
Pastel pencils (CarbOthello; Farber-Castell Pitt)
Mahl stick
Glassine
Pastel fixative
Hand pencil sharpener
Single-edged razor blade
Drafting tape or artist’s tape (acid free)
