Introduction to Parquetry: Mosaic Coasters
December 1, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
In this workshop, each participant will create a set of four hand-made wooden coasters using the art of parquetry. In parquetry, the artisan uses pieces of solid wood, 1/8" thick or thicker, to form geometric patterns, which are then inlaid upon a craft-quality ply backing board. The geometric patterns are defined by the various colors of differing wood species; no stains, paints or dyes are used.
Each participant will be invited to create their own design, choosing from hundreds of pre-cut pieces of wood. The final product will be sanded, and a protective finish applied, so your coasters will be finished and ready to enjoy at home.
All tools and materials will be supplied by the artist, including an impressive range of wood species, many rare and unusual.
Limited space available; early registration recommened.
