Design Strategies and the Importance of White in Watercolor
Friday, Oct 26 - Saturday, Oct 27
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Developing gutsy, coherent backgrounds is the foundation for painting in any media. In this workshop we will achieve those backgrounds through studying tried and true design strategies using demos, lectures, Power Point presentations, handouts and hands-on painting.
We will start by developing a painting of a white object or flower. Each artist can bring something white from home, or we will supply you with something. Sue will take you through the steps of subtle washes, drawing, saving whites with negative painting, designing your background, and finally looking for nuances of color in your white object.
On Saturday, in a second painting, we will combine this lesson with Color Strategies punching in color and color vibrations to make a strong, full painting, background and all. (Those who attended the Color Strategies class in spring are encouraged to bring their handouts from that workshop.)
